Acrylic Resin :

Its full name is polymethyl methacrylate and it is better known as Acrylite, Plexiglas, or Lucite. They are hard and rigid materials. They are excellent optical properties, resistance to sunlight, weather and most chemicals. The material is often used as an alternative to glass as it has higher impact strength than glass and will not shatter. It is softer and more easily scratched than glass. This can be overcome with scratch-resistant coatings.

Rods and tunes are cast in glass or metal cylinders or extruded. Acrylics can also be injection moulded.

Acrylic glass is commonly used for constructing residential and commercial aquariums. It is also used in the lenses of exterior lights of automobiles. The material is used to produce laserdiscs, and sometimes also for DVDs, but the more expensive polycarbonate (also used for CDs) has better properties when exposed to moisture. They are used to make contact lens, brush backs, transparent bowls, drink dispensers and outdoor signs. As Acrylic transmits more light than glass, they are used in fiber optics and edge-lighted dials. Artificial fingernails are also made of acrylic.
